Walking and Whining....

AnnaKate and Billy taking a nap in the hammock. Yes...Billy's leg is still healing. This has been a long process for him and he is ready for it to be over! me too...

Walking

AnnaKate is walking a lot more now. I hoped to have a video a few days ago, but when you read the next paragraph you will know why I can't get one. She can walk down a hall independently but still does not feel so sure about herself. So she crawls most of the time unless we specifically ask her to walk and coax her a bit. But I see a light at the end of the tunnel!!

Whining

Jessica has posted before about how she can handle RTS but when you add something else into the mix, like sickness, it is just too much. That is kind of where I am right now. AnnaKate has hit the "terrible three's". I can handle things most days but the whining and tantrums have added a new dynamic that is just too much for me. She throws toys, food, cups, you name it. She whines constantly about everything. Pick her up, she wants down, give her a toy then she wants something else. AnnaKate has always been such a sweet, loving, personable child and now she does not even act like her self. At first I thought she was sick (I still have not ruled that out...) but after talking to other parents and her teachers I think it is just her experimenting with her independence. She is having difficulty communicating her wants so I know that is an area of frustration. She is picking up signs so much faster now so hopefully that will help. I also don't want to give in to her as I know this will create a monster. Ugh...I do not like this!!! Please send my sweet AK back....

Any tips or suggestions would be greatly appreciated! (I found myself wanting to have a drink at 10:00am yesterday...so hurry with your advice!)

Update...some evidence today suggests that AK may have had a bug the last few days. She was much better behaved this afternoon...maybe there is hope. :)

Whining and tantrums really can make you feel like you are about to literally go insane! Take some comfort in the fact that almost all children do it. I have had moments of being terrified that it was a permanent personality change in my children! Seriously. Terrified. I think the best thing to do is stand your ground and don't ever give in. Also remember that a drink at 10:00am is called a mimosa and is perfectly acceptable!!

Sorry, can't help. I spoil your child as much as I spoil mine :)

Hey I have an idea, you need to go on a trip with some of your bestest friends in the entire world!!!
As far as advice, I feel at a loss with our sweet children, I know with my older boys I would not give in, so I guess we must do the same wiht our angels.

I read your blog after your update, I'm glad you have a clue as to what the whining may have been attributed to.

I see the bandage on your husbands knee still. How is the infection? Is he getting better?

I will stay away during these "Linda Blair moments" as I never want to see my sweet little angel in any state other than angelic. So I will always call ahead and get the forecast. If it's stormy I'll stay away.

Who are you kiddin' a drink before noon. My theory is that sometimes it's are a perscription for a happy day.

Guess Who?

HAHA about having a drink before 10:00...mimosas are okay, right? :)

Oh goodness, I hate giving advice because it makes it sound like my child is perfect...so not true. Just do what your mommy gut tells you to do...things will get better!

wish I had some advice. Noah loves to whine and throw tantrums. He throws his toys across the room quite a bit along with his food and sippy cups. I am so happy AK is feeling more confident to walk. That's great news.

That picture of the two of them sleeping in the hammock is just too cute! Priceless actually!

I like the tiny "me too" at the top of your post. I get it. I really do. :-)

I hope the crap-tastic behavior is illness related, but in case it isn't just remember that this, too, shall pass. Stand your ground, hang in there, put yourself in time-out... whatever works!

Boy, do I ever relate to this post? If Emma has the tiniest bit of fluid in her ears....the monster awakens in her...and WATCH OUT!!! I hope that the virus is all that it was with AnnaKate. She's just too cute to be a little monster at all:). Love the picture! Oh, and I just read your Wordless Wednesday post too, and what were they thinking with the BLUE frosting???? And, why is the kid next to her so clean?? Hmmmm...inquiring minds want to know:).
