Problem or Progress???

Ok friends...help me decide if this is a problem or great progress??

This morning I came back from my run to find AnnaKate in her usual spot in front of the tv. I saw her bare bottom and figured that she had taken off her pjs and her diaper which she has been doing lately. Then I saw the problem...poop in the floor. Smooshed and disgusting! I quickly scooped her up and headed to the bathroom. Because I am a loving wife I gave Billy the option of bathing a poopy child or cleaning up the mess. He opted for the bath...nice.

As I began to clean up the mess, I started to look for AnnaKate's pjs and diaper. They were no where to be found. After further investigation, I found both of them in the dirty clothes hamper. Here lies the problem or progress....

I am proud of AnnaKate's acknowledgment of the poopy diaper because that means that potty training may be beginning in the future...maybe distant future. I also think it is great that she disposed of it in a pretty smart place. (I don't put them there but I can see her logic...) BUT...we can't have this "poop fest" happen again. I talked with her about and she patted her bottom (sign for dirty diaper in our house) and seemed to understand that she needs to come get us and not handle it herself.

So what do you think...problem or progress? Do you have any similar stories or advice?

Progress! She's making a connection! Sounds like it may be time to get the potty seat out and start training :)

I wish Natalie didn't like having a poopy bottom...she doesn't care enough to let me know.

I'd say PROGRESS! Of course you'll teach her what to do when she has a poopy bottom, but that's great she's shown initiative, even though it creates a disgusting mess.

Go AK!

I love Jessica's comment HAHA.

Its time to potty train, I think, Progress for sure. Noelle took her diaper off when she was in bed "taking a Nap" and smeared poop all over the bed and wall. Super Gross to clean up but I took it as a sign to "Start" potty training. It is going to be a long road I think but Im excited for the out come.
Anna Kate is a smart little girl!

Kelly - I have some good ideas about what you could do next - too much to write here but email me (I'm still in the school district email). I think you are on the verge of a great opportunity with AK - and it may have less to do with potty training than it does with communication.
I had you on my mind today and I clicked on your blog to see what was going on with the greatest 4th grade teacher of all time! Benji says "hi" - he is headed to 8th grade!!! Oh my!!
Talk to you soon - Julie Maddox

Progress for sure! Noticing (and not caring for) a diaper is a step toward training!

Grace took off her diaper one time during a nap and "painted" the walls with the contents. I actually called Bryce at work and told him he had to come home.

Progress! Definitely.

Although, fair warning, she may stay in the play-with-poop phase for a while. Or so I've learned by living with the Arch-man. But that is not necessarily a bad thing; just an inconvenient one.

But... Where was Billy when this happened?!?!?! Probably the same place John usually is. @@

PROGRESS girl! When we were running today and we were talking about AK and her patting her diaper and all, I was going to tell you that it sounds like it may be getting close to time! I didn't because...well...it was probably the hill, and I couldn't talk and breathe at the same time. Get that potty out...way to go AK!!!!!

Ok, so I am super late on this but I had to comment! I nearly fell on the floor laughing at Jessica's comment!!!!! And yes, I think it is progress!!! She knows that she has it in her pants, that is more than what William does...he would go all day with poop in his pants if it didn't smell!! Progress girl, progress!!
