Getting ready...

for an iPad.

The iPad has won over most people, but the special needs community is going crazy for it too. It is being used for all kinds of things but the one that is the most exciting for us is communication. There are tons of neat apps that you can buy to assist your child in communicating.

Our plan is to buy one for AnnaKate for Christmas (shh...don't tell her.) To prepare her we have been working on the iTouch practicing the basics. We are using iCommunicate and some fun apps that help her learn how to use the touch screen.

What apps do you suggest when we get the ipad?

We love reading Dr. Seuss books on our ipad. Davis can have the books read to him or I can read and he can "turn" the pages. So far we have Dr. Seuss' ABCs and Green Eggs and Ham. I know Anna Kate will love her new toy!

I can't wait to hear how you like the ipad! We don't have one yet (we have 2 iphones, 2 Macs and and an itouch- I can't imagine why we would need an ipad!). Harris LOVES to play with my iphone but I don't know what sort of apps to get! I'll check back for recommendations that might work on the iphone!

Awesome photos! Here is a killer list of fun, but educational apps (some less fun than others) suggested for kids with differences. May not have those released in the last month or so, but a great list:

Have fun. Addie ADORES her ipad.

Woohooo! AK will get so much out of it, even more than just communication. I would recommend getting an Otter Box to cover it. It is crash proof incase it gets dropped/thrown/pushed off etc... Nathan loves his iPad. He even uses his pointer finger now to operate it. I'll send you a list of the apps we use for educational stuff. We chose Proloquo2go for his speech output program. We like it, but I must say it is a little tricky.

Awesome AK! Soon you and Logan will be emailing back on forth on your Ipads! Logan loves his! Same here as what Brandi said too! Logan's school is actually getting ready to do some Ipad training on Friday with the new program..I am hoping Logan lets the school teach him some new skills..will keep you posted!

Taylor loves the ipad! There are a ton of stories that you can download that read aloud to the children as the words appear on the screen. They can also color the pages with their fingers, play a game, or interact in a multitude of other ways. For some reason, Taylor loves the weather app. Who knew that would peak his interest!?

I can't wait to see how she does with her IPad. I need to get with the program and get Max an IPad. Seems like a growing trend with our little ones. Along with communication there are so many great apps for them. I think Anna Kate is going to look adorable with a missing tooth!!! Kelly F
