It's just a tooth...

While brushing AnnaKate's teeth last night, I noticed that one of her front teeth is loose! She fell about 6 or 7 months ago at school and hit it but it seemed to be fine. But after a brief talk with the nurse at the dentist's office, that fall may have sparked the tooth to become loose prematurely.

When I saw the loose tooth my stomach dropped for lots of reasons...
1. I hate loose teeth! Ask my students...they know not to show or tell me about any teeth issues.
2. Vanity...I really don't want AnnaKate to be snaggly toothed for the next few years.
3. Sadness... my baby really isn't a baby anymore.

I called my mom in a tizzy and she reminded me that I knocked out one of my baby teeth around a year old. This kind of put it into perspective that it is really just a tooth and that I needed to get over my issues since there was nothing I could do about it.

So now we are just waiting for this loose tooth to fall out...really it makes me sick to see it all loose and dangly. I better just get over this since AnnaKate has lots of teeth to loose!

**Side note: we are still dealing with our sleep issues but some progress is being made. I hope to have things back on track in the next few weeks. Lack of sleep is really the worst!

Do you have any good tooth stories to make me feel better?

I'm with you! It grosses me out, too! And I am not one with a weak stomach. But she is so cute and she will be super cute even if that tooth falls out!

Not sure if this will make you feel better or worse. But Emma's two front teeth have been loose for MONTHS. She doesn't mess with them and they don't seem to bother her. She's lost the four middle bottom teeth with no drama. No blood. No nothing. Three of the four just came out and I didn't know anything about it until she smiled and I realized there was a new hole! The only reason I knew about the fourth was because it fell out while I was brushing her teeth. This topic came up on the listserve not too long ago and for a lot of our RTS sweeties, loosing teeth just happens with no traumatic effects. Hang in there. She'll be absolutely adorable with or without those teeth!! How could you not love that smile!

Let's see if i can make you feel better. I went out on my 16th birthday, got in a car accident and bumped my teeth. 5 years llater I go to the dentist and he says it needs to come out. let's see, I'm 22 and I've got no front tooth. Purty!
Since you know the whole story, I thought I'd remind you...little girl with a missing front tooth=cute. 22 year old woman with a missing front tooth=sad!

When Harris was 9 months old he was pulling up on a coffee table and biting the coffee table at the same time. Unfortunately, he forgot to let go of the table and it pulled his front teeth so that they were horizontal to his mouth! Talk about yucky! A dentist met with us (on a Sunday) and pushed them back up. Fast forward a year and a half and the dentist told us that they were "dead" and had to be pulled. So Harris has been without two front bottom teeth for about three years! I thought that it would really bother me but it hasn't. In fact when one of those teeth came in recently I was sad!!!

She will be adorable as always.

One year at the beach, my brother (who was about 2 or 3 at the time) was riding in one of those child seats on the back of my mom's bicycle. My dad and I were pedaling along merrily behind her (I was in the same kind of child seat on the back of my dad's bike). As she was turning down a side street, her bike slipped on sand and the bike fell on its side with my brother strapped in on the back. My mom tried her very best to stable herself, the bike, and my brother. Needless to say his mouth and nose cushioned his fall. After he was taken by ambulance to the nearby beach er doc, both teeth came out. He was "toothless" for many years. I think it made him even more adorable than he already was!

Her grin will be absolutely adorable! I was in a car accident in 6th grade. A tennis racket in the front seat catapulted into my mouth and knocked my four front teeth back. I of course had a metal mouth, which kept them from going down my throat! The dentist had to "pull" them back into place-braces and all. Ah memories!

I am WAY grossed out by loose teeth too!! Nick and Evan think it is HILARIOUS to get in my face and wiggle them around till they bleed. Then they pull them out and chase me around the house with the bloody extracted tooth....nice, right?!
She will be precious either way!! Love you!!! Cathy

When Trinity lost her 2 front teeth at the same time I was in shock, but she looked so cute. Teeth don't bother me, I've pulled so many of my children and now grandchildren !!!!!

I'm with you on the sick stomach feeling with loose teeth. I always felt bad for my students too when they had loose teeth. I wasn't very motherly, but I did give them tooth stickers and an award to make up for it. I also had them hold their own bloody towels and sent them to the nurse so I wouldn't throw up in class. Not sure how I will handle this with my own children. I guess I'll be writing to ask you how you did it! Can't wait to see pics of your precious when she has one less tooth!
